Fernway’s Top 5 Vape Tips You Might Have Missed

At Fernway we take customer service seriously. And what that means is that if you hit us up with a question – by phone, email or DM, whatever is easiest – you can be damn sure you’ll get an answer.

We get it – it’s awkward to ask for help. But don’t worry, there’s no gatekeeping here. If you can build up your knowledge base about how to get the most out of your cannabis vapes, that’s good for us, it’s good for you, and it’s good for your friends and neighbors who might have cannabis questions for you in the future. Seems like a no brainer!

So in the spirit of sharing: here’s five vape tips we think will be the most helpful, based on the last two years of fielding your questions. You may already know some of these – and if you do, nicely done – but if you don’t, you’ll be happy to hear that once you finish reading this post, you’ll already be more informed and better equipped. Let’s begin…

TOP 5 VAPE TIPS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED

1. Make sure it’s turned on…

This one probably sounds basic to a lot of you. But for those of you who are new to vaping, it’s not always obvious how to get started. The good news is that it’s very simple, and once you do it a couple times you develop muscle memory.

First, make sure your vape is turned on. When you press the button, do you get any “feedback” from the device? Does anything light up or vibrate or otherwise indicate that the device is activated?

If your answer’s “no”, the vape’s turned off. That’s normal. All Fernway products that include a rechargeable battery – including our Travelers and our STYLUS batteries – come out of the box turned off, so that you get the max amount of battery life from the moment you start using it. Simply click the button five times fast (and fast is key – if you click it too slow, the tiny internal processor won’t register the “turn on” command) and when you see the light flash, you’re ready to go.

2. …and press the button while inhaling

But wait, there’s more. When you press the button, it heats the oil to the point that it vaporizes. This happens quickly, so you can start inhaling as soon as you press the button. Keep the button depressed while you inhale, and once you’ve taken in enough vapor, stop pressing the button.

Again, this may seem obvious to some of you, but that’s because you develop that muscle memory super quickly. And there’s one more thing you want to get in the habit of doing…

3. You’ll want to clear the chamber.

This one isn’t as well-known as #1, but just a second or two can save you time and energy by helping you avoid clogging your vape in the future.

When you’re inhaling and you’re ready to stop, take your finger off the button and give yourself one last second to inhale any vapor that’s lingering in the cartridge’s airway. That prevents vapor from recondensing and blocking the flow of air.

It’s also a way to get the absolute most out of your vape. If you don’t clear the chamber, that vapor that recondenses and plugs up your cartridge won’t just prevent you from getting a satisfying hit – it could make the entire cartridge unusable, which means you don’t get to enjoy your full purchase. And we definitely don’t want that.

Start incorporating this little move into your cannabis ritual, and you’ll instantly start to have a better time.

4. Use low heat for Live Resin.

This one is so underrated. If you’re new to Live Resin, you might know that it offers a unique and more complex flavor than other kinds of vapes. What you might not know is that experiencing the full range of that flavor requires you to be a little mindful about which battery you use.

If you heat Live Resin too high, the terpenes (aka the flavor molecules) vaporize too quickly to get much flavor. And since most vape batteries don’t come with specific heat settings, it can be easy to put a Live Resin cartridge on a battery that works fine with your other cartridges, only to end up with a less-than-flavorful hit.

The way to avoid this is to use a battery that’s got a low heat setting – or better yet, a battery that’s specifically made for Live Resin cartridges. Our Live Resin STYLUS features a low-heat setting that’s perfect for vaping Live Resin. It delivers satisfying vapor and maximum flavor by applying gentle and even heat to the oil, so you know you’re getting the full experience.

5. Be mindful when taking big rips.

Look – clouds are fun. That’s not up for debate. If you like taking big hits, all power to you. For those of you who do, you might have experienced the unsatisfying aftermath of a big hit. We’re not talking about coughing – we’re talking about when you overload the device.

Vapes are pretty simple devices. They’re more akin to a light bulb than an Iphone. So you want to make sure you don’t put too much stress on your vape by overheating it, or heating it up a bunch of times in a row. If you do, it can flood the wick with oil, and that’s what causes pesky leaks or clogs.

The trick here is to take one quick hit, or take a few gentle hits. Give yourself the time and the space to savor your vape. Don’t worry – it’ll be there when you get back.
